22 steps from the street

Once upon a time, I was dating a woman. This woman owned a nice house, which I spent a lot of time at, in, and under. She rented out part of the house, and her tenant was named Jennifer.

Jennifer was considering an assignment abroad, and took a bunch of pictures of the place to show to the person she would be swapping space with.

Of course, I/we say that we can get them scanned in, so that they can be e-mailed.

But then I got to thinking. What if I could do a web page for it instead? Then, no one needs to worry about a bulky zip file, or corrupted images, or any of the problems inherent in sending data througha bunch of third-party servers.

Of course, I’m a web idiot. I learn by crib notes, observing how others have accomplished their feats, and then duplicating the results. Not theft, or plagiarism, but absorbed knowledge.

Just like they try to teach you in school (rant possible..wait for it…ahh. Moment passed).

So, I set about learning how to do a nifty little map with imbedded images.

Lucky for me, there are 20 million Americans (and Canadians, and Englishmen, etc) who have already posed the same questions I have, and the answers were just a few keystrokes away.

I quickly learn how to apply the knowledge of .jpg, .gif, and javascript I have already accquired. I learn how to do nifty mouseovers, and how to make an image map. Here are the results.
