Here's the quick scoring rundown....

This is sort of a "stealth" calculation of your OBP + SLG, which is what most serious statisticians consider the best measure of your offensive contribution. It's all additive, though, so you can look at the newspaper and say, "Wow, Jim Thome made 10 points today!" Average hitters will ring up about 300-350 points a year this way. Really good hitters will be at 500 points or more. Once in a blue moon someone in the league has a hitter pop over 600 points.

Pitching

  • W 3
  • L -3
  • S 2
  • GF 1 (also counts CG)
  • IP 4.5
  • H -2.5
  • BB -1
  • HR -3

An "inning pitched" really means you recorded 3 outs. Solid starters tend to make about 10 points per start, and average about 300 to 350 points a year. Very good starters earn around 500 a year. Relievers work a lot less innings, and tend to earn fewer points. Your top-flight closers will earn about 300 points or so. Average middle-relief guys rarely earn more than 100 to 150 points.
