Game 42

I’m not putting down a deposit for playoff tickets yet, because last night was just more of the same.

A fantastic performance by a starting pitcher, lackluster performance by Seattle’s starting offense. I was down to two Mariners bats in last night’s contest, and both went 1 for 3. But Justin Leone paid off big with a moon shot, that Orlando Gomez most certainly retrieved post-haste.

I gave Steve the Grand tour last night, showing him all of my favorite places in Safeco Field. We kept up with the game in vignettes, but really didn’t miss anything. We arrived at our seats right at the bottom of the 7th, and were witness to Leone’s triumph.

Piniero picked up win # 5, and he deserved it. Guardado continues his Monster job search, with a nearly flawless save (16). He’s not Greg Gagne, but he’ll be a Red Sox pitcher sooner, rather than later.

John Olerud read the news today, oh boy. Maybe he’ll get tickets for tomorrow’s game, but I’m thinking he’ll sit this series out.

Spezio flashed leather at the cooler corner, but he’s no Johnnie O. Since I’ve been expecting, predicting, and dreading this since early April, I can’t say I’m surprised. But I’ll still miss him.
