I’m Looking For Something in Red

Some of you will find this more amusing than others.

I need to buy pants again. Counting the slacks I bought at near ruinous expense a few weeks ago, I have 5 pair that fit loosely, one that sorta fits, one that fits if I wear it like a crazy man, and three pair of jeans that really don’t fit at all.

Time to explore the “retail” sizes of 34-34 or 34-36. I also need about 10 shirts in Size L, which I expect to be much cheaper than the pants.

Such is life

What a nice problem to have. I’m almost there. Another Cycle should do me, and I’ll probably do half a cycle of hte vegetarian plan next week to put myself back “on track”

But this weekend is all me. Anyone not getting married want to do anything in between Football games?

The advantage to me is that I haven’t thrown away much clothing in the last 15 years. I still have smaller stuff that I bought in the (gasp) late ’80s that I prefer infinitely to the recycled ’70s crap available on the racks right now. Besides, being extremely fair-complected, those warm colors (e.g. chocolate, olive green, and pumpkin) really look lousy on me. Most of the stuff I’m currently wearing is from the mid-90s, but I want to achieve these last 9 pounds (which are stubborn suckers, I must say). Besides, I’m spending hundreds of dollars outfitting a 5-year-old who just went through a growth spurt…

I am at this very moment wearing a shirt I found on the side of the road in 1987.

Waste not, want not. Still looks and feels great. Cotton is a wonderful fabric.

The stuff I have left from the mid 90s is, delicately put, fat guy clothes. A lot of my convention tees are XLs, but other than that, I replaced most everything in the last 8 years as things wore out or just got too small.

The thousand dollars or so of baseball jerseys in my closet mock me nightly.

I guess I have another advantage over you – i know how to use a sewing machine to make things smaller. I found a nice black skirt for a somber occasion this winter, and I just liked it too much to put away with the other fat clothes. It took me about an hour to recycle that skirt into a smaller size. That won’t work for T-shirts, but it can be done for anything with side seams. It might be worth the investment to get someone to resize the stuff you already have, as opposed to buying new.

Those pants I care about are already set aside for whatever size I end with. I was really short on pants when the process started (4 pair of everyday, 3 pair of dress, and the tux), so the end result is about the same.

The 100+ lbs of XXL tees are requiring a lot of thought. In the end, they’ll all go. But that may take up to a year. Priority now is putting me in to Larges all the time, so I continue to look good on a near constant basis. If you saw me today, you’d be happy proud. Pictures soon, I promise.
