I don’t know how fast I’m going to fall asleep on this one, but I’ve been up and running since the wee hours of the morning with various projects, and I can feel the sweet oblivion of the abyss calling to me.

So it will be a real test of my staying power to remain conscious for what I believe is one of the best movies of the 21st century.

Full Stop.

Russo Brothers. Marcus & McFeely

Chris Evans fighting in an elevator, punching an airplane, then an AIRCRAFT CARRIER.

I can do this all day. Until I can’t.

TL:DR;

Running Ranking: #1 of 9

Commentary Takeaways:

Not a single moment of drowsiness, not even a yawn. The directors and writers start in without preamble, and they entertained me the entire time.

Be it the plotting process, casting, shot pulling, or their choice of color palette, each of the four men knew their stuff, and it was a fantastic learning experience.

Side note: this is the first time I’ve watched this film on my big projection screen, and I got a lot more out of it than just the commentary.

In particular, with the Russos calling out what Scarlet Johansson is doing as Agent Romanoff (no hero in the movie has a code name besides Cap) made her performance that much better.

It’s almost a letdown to roll into AGE OF ULTRON in a couple movies, and CIVIL WAR after that. Both are amazing films, but right here in WINTER SOLDIER is where the MCU gives Captain America his propers as a man out of time who still believes in justice, honor, friendship, and sacrifice.

Commentary Ranking:

1. CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER

2. THOR: THE DARK WORLD

3. CAPTAIN AMERICA: TFA

4. IRON MAN 2

5. INCREDIBLE HULK

6. IRON MAN 3

7. MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS

8. IRON MAN

9. THOR

NOTE: Unless BLACK PANTHER and CAPTAIN MARVEL are hiding the finest insights ever, I don’t see this one ever leaving the top spot
