Media Trip Report – THE NEWSROOM (Season 2, episodes 7-9)

(originally posted on facebook, November 27, 2022)

TL:DR; No, YOU’RE crying.

Content begins.

(Harsh word) you, Aaron Sorkin. I am emotionally compromised, to the point that I literally fell into a wall a few minutes ago while walking to the bathroom. My head is full of feelings and most of them are leaking from my eyes and nose.

(Harsh word), you, Aaron Sorkin. Harsh word your intelligence, your sensibilities. Harsh word your talent, and the place where it lives inside your guts.

(Harsh word) me, for falling for it again. I know what you were doing, I saw it unfolding, and could not look away.

Again.

I love this show, but in the interests of balance I would like to present an opposing viewpoint.

This is my cat. This is my other cat. They have sat with me through the entirety of Season 2, and also most of Season 1.

They are not emotionally compromised, because they have no idea what is going on. They conspire to huddle under blankets and steal body heat as their signature achievement on the day.

They are not emotionally compromised because they have never been in love, or loved someone so much it hurts to be in the room with them.

They have never failed at something so completely that they wanted to disappear. They have never suffered through trauma, or feared that they would be murdered in a situation beyond their control.

They worry about why the bowls are empty, and whether they will ever be full again.

At this very moment, I would not trade my life for theirs for all the kibble in the universe.

As mentioned before, this is Art. It’s supposed to feel this way, and no matter how many times I watch these episodes, it will never feel this way again.

It will be different, because I’ll be remembering this moment, remembering sharing it with you.

It will be different, because I’m different, and I’ll likely have done at least three more posts like this one about Season 3.

But these are fifty percent of my cats, and they don’t want anything to ever change.

YMMV, of course.

Meow.
