May 8

Roll call: Scott Magner, Rick Pfeil, the hated New York Yankees

Final Score: Yankees 6, Mariners 0: Roof = open

The day starts great, but soon becomes mired in pain. Mike Mussina is on the mound for the Highlanders, and he makes good on his anti-Mariner reputation.

8 innings of smoke, mirrors, and other wizardry reduce the Mariners’ bats to toothpicks. 4 hits (three of them for me) are all the hometown boys can eke out. Even Ron villone falls victim to Yankee bats. (4 hits, 3 runs, all earned, including a Giambi home run that falls gently into a yankee fan’s glove. AARGH.) His ERA just doubled, but he’s still the man. He sure looks like a starter now.

J. J. Putz comes in for the final two frames, and is on fire. 5 strikeouts over 6 batters faced. Wheeeee. I’f he’s up for good, I’m making a roster move for sure.

Note for the future. It is always cheaper to have a few high potency margaritas at the Matador before the game. Not only do they tast better, but they are WAAAY cheaper than the rounds we have on-site. Even though I didn’t pay for all of them, cash supplies are as low as Mariners morale right now. Time for some wins, I’m thinking. Maybe the other thing will go up as well.

Sadly, Raul Mojo is no more. We couldn’t even get him a hit tonight, against one of the teams he is known for hitting against. Th other would be the mariners, in case you hadn’t figured that part out.

We’ll take the series tomorrow. We pretty much have to.

Record = Scott 6-7, Rick 2-2, Edgar no doubles, no home runs, and counting.
