Downward Spiral

Roll call: Scott Magner, Delaina Dancey, not many others

Final Score: Orioles 5, Mariners 2: Roof = open

I feel like posting last night’s log here, because nothing has changed. Mariners can’t get clutch hits, even from their “proven” producers.

Only it’s so much worse. M’s didn’t even have two baserunners at the same time until the 7th, when they managed (somehow) to plate two, and then load them up again.

For the ancient Mariner, Edgar Martinez. Sidelined last night because of persistent back stiffness (bad news when you’re over 40), Gar comes up to the plate and puts on a show of protecting it.

Except for the umpire who calls edgar out on Ball Four.

Normally, Martinez would take this with a sad shake of the head, but he explodes. He “has words” with the umpire, and for the second time this week, BoMel comes charging out of the dugout to get between the two.

This time, he (Melvin) stays in the game, but the result is unchanged. Once more, the mariners choke.

Big time.

I really don’t know what to say anymore. they’re not getting better. They are getting worse. And there’s nothing left to do but drop back and punt.

Ichiro has his AB cancelled twice by a walk, and fails to extend the streak. But Wilson puts up a good one, and Rich “Anemia bat” Aurilia comes through with another double. Too bad he can’t do it consistently, or productively.

Where have you gone, Joe Dimaggio? Mr. Coffee is about the only thing that could save this team. We need a heavenly host of hitting instructors for these guys, before they sell their souls for a series win.

Record = Scott 6-10, Delaina 0-2
