Hansens ride again
So, you won’t understand the above comment until I get one of my pictures posted, but believe me, it’s relevant
May 20th
Roll Call: Scott Magner, Mark Hogan, Eric Trant, the chick from Quincy
Final Score: Orioles 0, Mariners 11
You read that right, true believers. Tonight, everything worked out okay.
My buddy Mark attended the first of the “ten or so” games he’s “good for” tonight, and it was a great one.
We test out (once again) the Beer Garden paradigm before the game. With a little prodding, I hook him up with FREE BEER, and the evening starts off right.
The first five innings fly by, a great pitcher’s duel. Mark is a Cubs fan, so by default he knows baseball. Early inning conversation goes well, and we are both happy.
Our friend Eric shows up ( a White Sox fan, but he’s still cool), and we sneak him down to our section. He brings with him the girl from Mark’s birthday party (if you were there, you remember), who is also cool. At the very least, she’s a Mariners fan.
Five innings of scoreless (but not hitless, for the Orioles at least) baseball ensue, and then the M’s bats finally wake up.
A 6 run fifth is all the that Moyer needs to notch another W, and the M’s cruise all the way to victory lane.
After chasing the starter, Seattle piles on 5 more in the remaining frames, finishing out the best offensive performance of the year. Including some of the games in which they put up 18 hits. Tonight there were 13, and three were for extra bases. 8 were with men in scoring position. (10 RBI, counting Ichiro’s second dinger.)
Every player reaches base under his own power, and it’s definitely a roto positive night.
Hopefully, tonight marks a turning point for the M’s bats. Otherwise, the game is like that kiss on the cheek you get when she “just wants to be friends.”
Record: Scott 7-10, Mark 1-0 (in s. 111), Eric 1-0 (in s. 111), Chick from quincy whose dad played AA ball, 1-0 (in s. 111)
Mariners, 14-26. Still 11.5 games back, still losing. But just a little bit better than last night.
