Map It!

It’s a geek moment, but I feel good about it.

Tonight, I scanned a bunch of pictures for Sonja. Or, rather, For Sonja’s tenant Jennifer.

It’s a long story, but Jennifer may be swapping living space with a colleague, and wanted to send her some pictures of Sonja’s upstairs apartment. In which Sonja lived for the first few years she owned the house.

Of course, I/we say that we can get them scanned in, so that they can be e-mailed.

But then I got to thinking. What if I could do a web page for it instead? Then, no one needs to worry about a bulky zip file, or corrupted images, or any of the problems inherent in sending data througha bunch of third-party servers.

Of course, I’m a web idiot. I learn by crib notes, observing how others have accomplished their feats, and then duplicating the results. Not theft, or plagiarism, but absorbed knowledge.

Just like they try to teach you in school (rant possiblle..wait for it…ahh. Moment passed).

So, I set about learning how to do a nifty little map with imbedded images.

Luck for me, there are 20 million Americans (and Canadians, and Englishmen, etc) who have already posed the same questions I have, and the answered were just a few keystrokes away.

I quickly learn how to apply the knowledge of .jpg, .gif, and javascript I have already accquired. I learn how to do nifty mouseovers, and how to make an image map.

So, if you want to see where my beloved used to live, and see some of Jennifer’s stuff occupying the same sapce, and further wish to laugh at my self-taught geek pride, here it is.
