Game 57

I’d compose a haiku, to save time, but really, the time has been spent.

Mariners lose, 6-4.

See? quick, easy, and over. Just like today’s game vs the Hated New York Yankees. The Mindy unit and I arrive in time to prepare the scorebook, and watch the lines laid down. We laugh at the pitiful spectacle of $100,000 strikeout challenge (rant forthcoming), and then at the pitiful spectacle of Mariners v. Yankees

The 2004 Championship series is now in session, please rise, and recognize the Hon. John Olerud.

Or something to that effect. JO gets a standing ovation during his first AB, almost as loud as the one granted to Edgar on Tuesday night.

And then proceeded to be John Olerud in Seattle. Ole goes 1-4 on the day, but it was an important one, knocking in 2 runs to take the lead for good after the Mariners walk Ruben Sierra (go figure) to get to the light hitting first baseman.

As usual, the Mariners rally falls short, and the Yankees rally nets them a big ole W.

The Yankees now lead the league in come from behind wins, a stat made popular by the 2001 Mariners. Oddly enough, the Bombers managed one more very important come from behind win during the 2001 postseason, and were rewarded with a trip to the World Series

Again.

The Yankees are gearing up for their 40th appearance in the big dance. A Yankee fan told me recently, “Hey, cheer up. The Yanks only win half the time. In the World Series.”

Razzum, frazzum, %#@!#&

It is an otherwise beautiful day and the age old cry of “Let’s play two!” becomes

Game 26

Eugene 3, Everett 10

Now this is the life. We’ve been talking about doing this for a while, but as previously mentioned, the stars are aligned this week. Mindy and I decide to take in a north-south doubleheader. While both of us are a little short on cash, it turns out not to matter. Arriving at the ticket booth, we ask what’s available down near the field. The attendant gleefully informs us, “Well, I’ve got a couple for free ones, if that’s okay.”

Survey says?

YES!

The Tualalip Casino buys season tickets, and gives them away to unsuspecting fans. Who knew? Well now I do, and I’m asking for Field box every time. We are announced later as the Sherwood family, the recipients of the Tualalip casino’s instant Upgrade. Now that’s cool.

The game is great, and we spy Mariners GM Bill Bavasi up in the press box, checking out the newest Mariner phenom, Matt Tuiasisopo. Two months ago, “Tui” was considering buying season tickets to the Aquasox this summer. Now, he sells them.
Bavasi orders a soda and a hot dog from the press room attendant. Who says he’s out of touch with what the fans want? Too bad he didn’t order a beer. He would then have seen the superiority of minor league baseball.

Which was better on every level than the game we saw earlier today. Gram slam home runs, timely hitting, good fielding, and our section being named the beneficiaries of yet another giveaway, Jay Buhner bobblehead dolls, plus two tickets (each) to another Aquasox game.

I love Everett. Too bad it’s not in Bellevue. If it was, I’d definitely go more often to see some games. We might even get Ryan to go.

Of course, I could always get another car, and go all the time. But that’s a lot of effort.

Instead, I get to say,

Aquasox win. Again

ohh, what a nice feeling.
