Game 60

Devil Rays 6, Mariners 5

Yesterday, I documented the career and induction of Jay Buhner into the Mariners Hall of fame.

Today, they did the deed, and it was emotional.

Not much else was, unless you count despair.

Let’s focus instead on the positive aspects of the game

Edgar got a hit
Bucky got a 2 RBI pinch hit
Boone got two hits
Ichiro got a hit
Dan Wilson got a hit

All done.

Randy Winn is a Designated Hitter that has moments of mediocrity in the field. He didn’t have any tonight.

Willie Bloomquist, while a spectacular glove man, is a sub par hitter with an OBP nearly lower than his BA. While streaky, his lack of extra base power is…disturbing.

Ryan Franklin gave up his customary HR in the first inning, a 2 run shot by our old friend Tino Martinez. That was the ball game, although it took the rest of us 2 hours, 35 minutes to figure it out.

And that pretty much sums up the ball game. Everything fell just a little bit short, Including the 9th inning rally. Willia Paul Bloomquist strands Ichiro in the on-deck circle for the second straight night, and the game ends.

Once again, the Umpires have decided that their game is superior to the one the players play. Neither Lou or Bob lost it today, although man each has come close in the last two days.

Perhaps tomorow night’s game will have added value.

Until then, Mariners lose.

Again.
