Countdown to Distinction: 4 Days

The Assassination of Orange

In just a few days, my first professional sale in over a decade will be in the hands of readers. But that’s not why I’m posting today, and you may have noticed this cover image has somebody else’s name below the title. That’s because I’ve spent a lot of time in the last few weeks talking about my own work, and the process of bringing it to the public.

This week, I want to write about other writers. Specifically, my fellow SideQuest authors, and why you should be buying their books. All this week, I’ll be spotlighting a new SideQuest every day, and talking about why I think it’s cool.

So let’s talk about Joe Brassey. JoJo (as no one calls him) is one of the authors of The Mongoliad, a martial arts instructor, swordsman, and as of this writing the father of almost one. No stranger to choreography and collaboration, this story marks his first foray into the pain/rapture of solitary writing.

WHO IS IT: See above. I’ve been badgering BrayBray (as no one calls him) to set up a webpage for you to visit and check out how awesome he is, and as soon as he does I’ll replace this line with a link to the most amazing page that ever webbed. But until then, take my word for it, this guy is going places. He writes tight, descriptive prose, and he does it very fast. So before too long, expect even more great stories from Joseph Brassey – Author.

WHAT IS IT: The Assassination of Orange is an almost-murder mystery that will keep you guessing until the last page. Not about the title, that’s totally going to happen. But if you think you know what happened in 1584 AD, you’re not paying enough attention to the Foreworld. Nothing is as it seems, and like all good theater, there’s a bit with a dog.

WHY SHOULD I READ IT: Remember how boring history class was? Well forget all that crap. It’s time to Learn Something ™. This is, of course, a work of fiction. Fictional stuff happens to fictional people. But listen up, yo! This cat does some research, and it shows in his work. And as sad as it makes me, security concerns for world leaders are something we should all pay more attention to, and even though I knew What Happens ™, I woke up in the middle of the night on the day of release to download and devour this story, and it was time well spent.

If you like guns, Guns, GUNS, this is the book for you. Espionage, intrigue, and small dogs? Check, Check, and Check. And that old Foreworld magic? It’s there in spades.

And most importantly, you should read it because I want you to.

WHERE CAN I GET IT: The Assassination of Orange is available as an e-book from 47North and, and as an audiobook from

WHEN WILL IT BE OUT: That’s the best part. You can pick up this great story right now, by following the links above.

IS THAT EVERYTHING: I’m glad you asked that. I believe strongly in the Foreworld Saga, and in particular the SideQuests. If you’ve purchased and read The Assassination of Orange, I want to hear about it. Please comment on this post with a link to an online review of this story. I want you well and thoroughly hooked on this universe by the time my own story, Hearts of Iron, releases May 14, 2013.

Let the reading commence!
